Trichy –HIV/AIDS centre Established in 2007

Started in 2007 under Project ACT which is a part of the GFATM Round IV initiative this is the first large inpatient facility in Trichy. Tamil Nadu has a large HIV population and an equally large number of PLHA are recieving free ART from the government roll out. Trichy is also one of the districts with large numbers of PLHA and this centre was established keeping in mind the needs of this population.

Capacity: The centre is equipped with 50 beds and an inhouse laboratory. An experienced team provides round the clock care including emergency services. Ambulance services are also available. The centre is a bee hive of activity at all times and PLHA come from far and wide to seek services.

Objectives:

  • Provide access to care & support for PLHAs both pre and post ART.
  • Basic Diagnostics and link to tertiary care centers.
  • Management of Opportunistic Infections
  • Counseling
  • Develop linkages & networking with Govt. ART programs.
  • Enhance community sensitization

Funders: This initiative was funded by the Global Fund for AIDS, TB and Malaria Round IV through Principal Recipient Population Foundation of India.

The centres at Bagalkot, Guntur and Kakinada are all under Project ACT which is a part of the GFATM Round IV initiative.
