Bagalkot –HIV/AIDS centre Established in 2007

Bagalkot is one of the most severely HIV affected districts in Karnataka. Despite the large number of cases, there were no care options for PLHA. Once again the Freedom Foundation center that started in 2007 is the first large scale inpatient facility in the region started under Project ACT which is a part of the GFATM Round IV initiative.

Capacity: The center is equipped with 50 beds and also has an in-house laboratory. The center is capable of handling crisis care and provides all the necessary services for PLHA in the region. Referrals are from both public and private providers across the district. The center has a robust team of trained staff to cater to all needs including emergencies. The center also networks closely with the local government ART roll out and provides care to cases on or before ART.

Objectives:

  • Provide access to care & support for PLHAs both pre and post ART.
  • Basic Diagnostics and link to tertiary care centres.
  • Management of Opportunistic Infections
  • Counselling
  • Develop linkages & networking with Govt. ART programs.
  • Enhance community sensitization

Funders: This initiative was funded by the Global Fund for AIDS, TB and Malaria Round IV through Principal Recipient Population Foundation of India.

Donations will support needy patients and their families

The centres at Guntur, Trichy and Kakinada are all under Project ACT which is a part of the GFATM Round IV initiative.
